From Burnout to Bliss: How I Transformed My Life Through The Power of Self-care

The constant pressure to succeed and be productive can leave us feeling exhausted and disconnected. But what if there was a way to break free from this cycle and find balance? Allow me to share my personal journey from burnout to bliss, and how I transformed my life through the power of self-care.

As someone who's danced in the fast-paced world of luxury retail, finance, and entrepreneurship, I've seen it all—the highs, the lows, and everything in between. My passion for holistic wellness ignited the flame that birthed J.D. Body Treats Self-care Boutiques , but it was my journey through burnout that truly shaped my understanding of the transformative power of self-care and work-life balance.


Self-care isn't a luxury—it's a fundamental necessity for our well-being. When we consistently prioritize other things over ourselves, we risk falling into the exhausting cycle of burnout, which can deeply impact both our physical and mental health. However, by gently setting boundaries, acknowledging our own limits, and wholeheartedly embracing self-care, we lay the foundation for a life of balance, resilience, and joy.


My Self-Care Awakening

I was always a go-getter, constantly striving for success in my career then in my business. I pushed myself to the limit, working long hours, neglecting my own needs, barely having time to spend with friends and family. I wore the titles “workaholic” and “over achiever” as if they were badges of honor, my lifestyle became all work and no play and I was driven by results, financial success, and hustle culture. I'd practically become a slave to my own business.


It was 2022 and I was running two luxury self-care boutiques, juggling a team of 8, orchestrating multiple events each month, and pouring my heart and soul into my business. Sounds like a dream, right? Well, it was—until it wasn't. I began to find myself physically exhausted, mentally drained, and emotionally numb. I was working 14+ hours a day attempting to maintain the business. Burnout began to creep in like a silent thief, stealing my joy, my energy, and my sense of self as I over committed and said yes to everything else except for me.


Amidst the turmoil, I felt the strain in my finances as productivity dwindled, I began to have health issues, and growing challenges with my young children, who yearned for more of my time and presence.

Then in July 2022, life delivered a gut-wrenching blow—the tragic passing of my beloved mother and brother just a week apart. Their sudden departures sent shockwaves through my existence, upheaving everything I had believed about resilience and strength. My mother, who had heroically overcome so much adversity and trauma in her life, succumbed peacefully after a tumultuous battle with mental health issues that were magnified by past traumas and ongoing struggles. Just a week later, my brother, who had been a quiet pillar of strength, lost his own silent battle with depression. This sequence of loss shattered me, driving me to my knees and forcing me to confront the fragility of life head-on.

Stepping away from the relentless hustle of my business, I sought refuge in solitude to navigate the storm of grief that had enveloped me. In these moments of profound silence and reflection, clarity began to emerge amidst the chaos. It dawned on me how deeply I had been mirroring my mother’s propensity to give endlessly to others while neglecting her own needs. This pattern was not sustainable, and these painful losses illuminated the stark reality that I, too, was on a perilous path of self-neglect.

Compelled by these revelations, I realized it was imperative to reevaluate my priorities and redefine what success meant to me. The world I had built around my business, once a source of pride and accomplishment, now seemed daunting and hollow. I understood that continuing in this way was a disservice not only to my well-being but also to the memory of my loved ones who had struggled in silence. This wake-up call was harsh but necessary, prompting a profound transformation in how I approached life, work, and the very essence of care. I began to embrace the idea that to truly honor their lives, I must learn from their struggles and advocate for a balanced life—one where self-care is integrated as a pillar of strength, not a retreat from responsibility.

It became clear that neglecting myself—my relationships, my health, my own needs—led to a deep sense of loss and disconnect. In the tender embrace of introspection, I discovered the profound truth: I can’t pour from an empty cup and that the most precious gift we can give ourselves is love and care.

After this realization I embarked on a journey of healing, self-discovery, and pouring back into me. I sought out self-care resources and strategies that would help me restore balance and find joy in my life again. I took significant steps to shift my focus from external achievements to internal stability and peace. This transition was not immediate nor easy, but it set me on a path towards genuine healing and meaningful engagement with the world around me. As I moved forward, the lessons from this pivotal time continued to resonate, guiding me to help others recognize the critical importance of caring for oneself as fervently as we do for others. Through consistent practice and self-reflection, I gradually began to reclaim my joy, energy, and sense of self, and in the process I discovered BLISS.

Embracing the Journey

So, where did I begin? With baby steps my loves. I enrolled in therapy. I crafted a simple yet sacred routine—waking up before the sun, sipping on herbal tea, and setting intentions for the day ahead. I delved into the depths of my soul, seeking solace in journaling, meditation, and the healing power of aromatherapy . Each day was a journey—a dance between light and shadow, growth and grace.

Finding Balance

As a mom of three and a CEO, balance became my holy grail. I learned to dance with the rhythm of life, embracing the messy, beautiful chaos with open arms. I organized my environment and then my life. Time blocking became my secret weapon, carving out pockets of precious moments for work, play, and everything in between. And oh, the sweet liberation of saying no—no to overcommitment, no to guilt, and yes to the sacred art of self-preservation.


In the symphony of self-care, every note sings with intention and reverence. From the soothing hum of essential oils in a diffuser to the gentle touch of crystal healing, I found solace in self-care rituals that nourished my mind  and spirit. I began to enjoy pampering myself —indulging in holistic wellness treatments, basking in candle lights, and surrendering to sweet relaxation. Resting when my body said so.

As I welcomed self-care into my life, miracles unfolded. What was once dull became vibrant with possibilities. Achieving financial stability became a journey guided by balance and purpose. Relationships found renewal, bringing genuine joy. After rediscovering my passion for business, I now approach each day with fresh enthusiasm and opportunities flow easily. Reigniting my zest for life has illuminated my path.
